Storm Water Discharge Program and Permits

Water quality can be adversely affected by storm water discharges generated by runoff

from land and other areas such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops

where pollutants and other chemicals may be present. This is the same water that feeds

our livestock and our community.

Companies can control storm water discharges through the use of Best Management

Practices (BMPs). BMPs are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as

“methods that have been determined to be the most effective, practical means of

preventing or reducing pollution from nonpoint sources.”

STEP can evaluate your company’s potential sources of sediment and other pollutants draft a BMP that includes placement of controls to effectively prevent pollutant discharges to surface and ground waters.
